An OPG (Orthopantogram), or Dental X-ray, is a procedure that uses x-rays to produce images of the jaws and teeth.
No, appointments for OPG are not required. Most OPG scans require you to attend for around 10-15 minutes.
No special preparation is required for an OPG. Try not to wear any jewellery or metallic items, as these may need to be removed.
A qualified and specially trained radiographer will always be present during your X-ray.
You will be asked to remove any metal (e.g. jewellery, dentures, etc.) from around your head. You will then be asked to face the OPG machine and bite on a plastic disposable mouthpiece. Our radiographer will position you to ensure the best images are possible. Once positioned, the radiographer will walk behind a screen to take the x-ray. While the x-ray is being taken, the OPG machine will rotate around your head for about 10-15 seconds. It is very important that you do not move during this time.
The entire procedure only takes a few minutes. There are no side-effects to an OPG and you can resume normal activity after having one.
Before your examination you must tell us if you:
